Three Panthers earn all-America honors on the Phil Steele preseason teams

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Three Panthers earned spots on a Phil Steele FCS Preseason All-American team while 13 more earned spots on the organization's Missouri Valley Football Conference teams.Â
Matthew Cook earned first team all-American honors while Spencer Cuvelier earned third team defense honors and Benny Sapp III was named to the all-American fourth team defense.
Cook, a kicker, has now been named to four preseason all-American special teams in addition to four MVFC preseason teams, including the Phil Steele MVFC Preseason First Team Specials Team.Â
Cuvelier, a linebacker, has now earned spots on two all-American teams in addition to three MVFC preseason teams, including the Phil Steele MVFC First Team Defense. He also was nominated for the Allstate's 31st AFCA Good Works Team, one of the most coveted community service awards in college football.
Sapp, a defensive back, earned his second spot on an all-American team with Phil Steele fourth team defense honors. He joined Cook and Cuvelier on the Phil Steele MVFC Preseason First Team for defense as well, making it his third MVFC team distinction.
Offensive linemen Erik Sorensen, Justin Peine, Nick Ellis joined wide receiver Quan Hampton on the Third Team Offense Team.
Devin Rice (defensive line), Korby Sander (defensive back) earned Third Team Defense honors.
Wide receiver Deion McShane earned two fourth team honors with a spot on the Offense Team and as a kickoff returner on the Special Teams. Punter Cael Loecher joined McShane on the Fourth Team Special Teams.Â
Offensive linemen Tristan Roper and Jared Penning also were named to the Fourth Team Offense while Jevon Brekke earned a spot on the Fourth Team Defense.Â
