CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- With the spring season in the books and the semester wrapping up this week, UNI volleyball will be making its way across the Atlantic Ocean as the Panthers visit Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro as part of a two-week international trip.
Â
The Panthers will play 6 matches across the three-nation trip, including stops in the Croatian and Bosnian capital cities of Zagreb and Sarajevo.
Â
"We are so looking forward to our overseas trip," said head coach Bobbi Petersen. "This opportunity for our student-athletes will be a once in a lifetime kind of experience. Being able to blend the joys of international travel with competitive volleyball, service, learning different cultures and spreading our passion for volleyball is truly special."Â
Â
"We will have a unique blend of volleyball, service, exploring and adventure, with an awesome opportunity to grow, learn, and bond in a unique way," Petersen explained. "We will be able to experience and learn about different cultures, compete playing high level volleyball, and continue to grow and develop as a team."
Â
UNI's international trip is the program's first since visiting Nicaragua in May 2017. The program was originally slated to travel to Europe as part of a four-year cycle last spring, but postponed its trip by a year due to COVID-19 protocols. UNI has made previous international trips to 8 different countries in the last 17 years, including France, Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Brazil.
Â
UNI volleyball fans can follow the program's daily activities while in Europe on the team's official social media platforms.
