GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Two Panthers have been recognized for their achievements on the field and in the classroom by area sports information directors.
Redshirt sophomore second baseman Taylor Hogan and redshirt junior pitcher Kailyn Packard have been named to the the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 6 Softball First Team. The Academic All-District teams divide student-athletes into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
The 2021-22 Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.Â
This is the first time the Panthers have had two players named to the All-District First Team since the UNI softball program began in 1974. Hogan has a 3.99 cumulative GPA and leads the Panthers in doubles (10) and triples (2) this season while batting .315. Packard has a 4.00 cumulative GPA as the Panthers starting pitcher with a 1.63 ERA and 20 victories in 29 appearances.Â
Former UNI shortstop Sammey Bunch was the most recent Panther named a CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2020.Â
