
Kylee Sanders named MVC Newcomer of the Week

ST LOUIS -- Another UNI softball newcomer has been recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference for her strong play.
Freshman shortstop Kylee Sanders is the latest Panther to be awarded MVC Newcomer of the Week honors for her play against Evansville over the weekend. Sanders was one of three new players to the league nominated for the weekly award that is voted on by league coaches and sports information directors.Â
Sanders has been a key role player for the Panthers so far this season and got her chance to shine over the weekend in three games against the Evansville Aces. In three games, Sanders batted .455 through 11 appearances behind the plate with a .818 slugging percentage. Sanders also had the only triple of the weekend for UNI in their first game against Evansville. The triple brought home one run as Sanders had 4 RBIs on the weekend.
Overall, Sanders collected 3 runs, 5 hits, and was only struck out twice while in the box. Sanders was able to have a .454 on base percentage on the weekend and has the second best on base percentage on the Panther roster.Â
This is the first time Sanders has been named Newcomer of the Week by the Valley. UNI has collected two other newcomer honors, both going to Mya Dodge on March 8 and March 22.Â
