
Panthers Go 0-3 at Bluegrass Battle

LEXINGTON, Kentucky – The UNI volleyball team went (0-2) on the first day of the Bluegrass Battle, falling to both USC and Kentucky in three sets. On the final day the Panthers went (0-1) as they were swept by the Bluejays.
UNI vs USC L, 0-3 (24-24, 21-25, 12-25)
The Panthers dropped the opening match of the Bluegrass Battle to USC. The Panthers hit just .054 in three sets, recording 25 kills with 20 attack errors. Tayler Alden led the way with 7 kills followed by Kaylissa Arndorfer with 6 and Emily Holterhaus with 5.
Jenna Brandt and Tayler Alden totaled 23 assists with Brandt leading the way with 13. Kaylee Donner finished with a team high 9 digs followed by Kira Fallert and Emily Holterhaus who finished with 7 digs apiece.
USC totaled 36 kills while hitting .228 on the match. The Trojans hit .391 in the third set.
UNI vs #3 Kentucky L, 0-3 (5-25, 17-25, 19-25)
The Wildcats dominated the first set allowing just 5 points to the Panthers. The Panthers battled back in the following sets recording 17 and 19 points. However, the Wildcats shut down the Panther offense, recording 18 total blocks. Emily Holterhaus finished with 6 kills leading the way while Tayler Alden and Kaylissa Arndorfer tailed in 5 each.
Tayler Alden racked in 14 assists while Brandt added in 5. Kaylee Donner led the team with 10 digs on the night followed by Kira Fallert with 6.
UK hit .364 on the night while recording 43 kills. The Wildcats finished with 8 aces and 39 digs.
UNI vs Creighton L, 0-3 (20-25, 21-25, 11-25)
In the final match of the Bluegrass Battle, the Panthers came up short against (RV) Creighton. In a back and forth first set, the Panthers hit .235 while struggling to connect in the third set hitting -.133.
Overall the Panthers hit .073 with 29 kills and 21 total attack errors. For the offense, a true freshman, Kira Fallert led the way with 8 kills. Emily Holterhaus and Inga Rotto contributed 4 kills of their own.
Tayler Alden led the team in assists with 13, followed by Jenna Brandt who finished with 10. On the defensive side, Kaylee Donner led the team with 12 digs, followed by Emily Holterhaus with 9.
CU hit .433 in the third set while hitting .272 on the night and recording 47 kills.

Next week the Panthers will travel to Pullman, WA to compete in the Washington State Tournament where they will face Gonzaga, Washington State, and Long Beach State.
