
Women's Golf Open Season at the Redbird Golf Invitational

The UNI women's golf team will begin their fall season at the Redbird Golf Invitational held in Normal, Illinois, this weekend. The host team, Illinois State University, will hold their annual tournament for the 57th year at Weibring Golf Club, a par 72 course playing at 6,022 yards.Â
Returning for the Panthers this season are senior Hannah Bermel and sophomore Allison Nuss. Bermel, an all-conference player and MVC First-Team Scholar Athlete, led the team with a 77.4 stroke average last season. Bermel won the Indiana State Spring Invite by 5 strokes, finishing as the only player under par with rounds of 71 and 72. Nuss also returns after her first season as a Panther, shooting 6 rounds in the 70s as a freshman. Nuss finished T8th with rounds of 74 and 77 at the Indiana State Invite last spring. Also teeing it up for the Panthers this weekend are junior Madison Humke, sophomore Anna Jensen, and freshman Anna Nacos.Â
Coach John Bermel enters his 20th season coaching the UNI women's golf team and was named Missouri Valley Conference Co-Coach of the Year last spring.
Play will begin with 36 holes starting at 8 a.m. Sunday morning with the final 18 holes starting Monday at 8:30 a.m. Participating teams include Ball State, Bowling Green, Bradley, Butler, Drake, Eastern Kentucky, Illinois State, Indiana State, IUPUI, Loyola Chicago, Northern Illinois, UNI, Ohio, Southern Illinois, Valparaiso, & Western Illinois.
