Richmond, VA -- The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) have announced that the UNI women's swimming & diving team have earned Scholar All-America honors for their efforts in the classroom last semester.Â
Selections were made on the basis of their Spring grade point averages and represent 17,982 student-athletes. The Scholar All-America team includes 721 teams from 424 institutions. The Panthers earned the honor after posting a 3.7 team GPA in the 2021 spring semester. A terrific year in the classroom for the Panther swim and dive team, who also landed 12 on the MVC Scholar Athlete team.
"I couldn't be prouder of what this group of student athletes have done through the three most challenging semesters we have had," said head swimming and diving coach Nick Lakin. "They have come through it leading the athletic department all three semesters and adapted to several different types of learning while finishing as high as third in the country. I am looking forward to the next group and all they will accomplish."
"Coach Lakin consistently produces winners in the pool and classroom and this year is no exception," noted CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart. "These are some of the best ambassadors of Northern Iowa and Athletic Director Harris, President Nook, and Dr. Elaine Eshbaugh can and should be proud of these 27 women."
In total, 721 programs from 426 institutions earned the honor, caver all collegiate divisions. CSCAA will name its individual Scholar All-America team next week. Founded in 1922, the CSCAA, is the nation's first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development.
