Three Panthers Named to All-MVC Teams

ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Valley conference has announced all-conference awards, honoring three UNI men's basketball players, Austin Phyfe, Bowen Born, and Nate Heise.
Redshirt junior Austin Phyfe has been selected to the All-MVC 3rd Team. Phyfe, a former First Team All-MVC selection, averaged 13.3 points per game and shot 57.8% from the field. Phyfe hauled in a team high 8.2 rebounds per contest and finished the MVC schedule with 13 blocks.
Bowen Born is named the 2021 Freshman of the Year after averaging 11.2 points per game in Valley play. Born is the fourth Panther to be named Freshman of the Year following Eric Coleman, Seth Tuttle and AJ Green. Born started all 18 Valley games averaging 31.1 minutes per game. Born finished as one of the most efficient free throw shooters in the conference, making 80.4% of his attempts at the charity stripe. Born finished with a season high 21 points and 7 assists in the regular season finale at Illinois State. Born is also named to the MVC All-Freshman Team and the MVC All-Newcomer Team.
Nate Heise earned a spot on the MVC All-Freshman Team after averaging 7.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Heise played 32.0 minutes per game in Valley games, scoring a season high 15 points against Missouri State on Dec. 28 and tied that mark against Valparaiso on Feb. 14. Heise made 79.4% of his free throw attempts, ranking ninth in the Valley.
The Panthers will be back in action on Thursday, March 4 when they take on the Redbirds of Illinois State at 8 pm in the Enterprise Center.
