UNI Men Picked First, Women Third in Pre-Championship Poll

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Missouri Valley Conference released its 2021 Indoor Track & Field Pre-Championship Poll results on Wednesday, favoring the UNI men's team to finish first with 75 points in the poll and five first-place votes. Following the Panthers is Indiana State, with 73 points and three first-place votes. Illinois State is projected third, earning 67 points in the poll and one first-place vote.
The UNI women's team is projected to place third, earning 76 points in the poll, followed by Southern Illinois in fourth with 74 points. Illinois State is favored to win the women's championships, earning 100 points with 10 first-place votes, with Indiana State following with 87 points for second place.
MVC Standings
At the close of the regular season for indoor competition, UNI leads the Missouri Valley in six events. Senior Isaiah Trousil leads the men's 200m with a time of 21.39 set on Jan. 9 at the Panther Invite. In the men's 4x400 meter relay category, the Purple and Gold lead with a time of 3:15.73, set at the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 12. Freshman Parker Kiewiet leads the men's long jump with a mark of 7.30m, set at the Ted Nelson Dual on Feb. 6 and redshirt senior Aleenah Marcucci leads the women's long jump with a mark of 5.67m, set on Jan. 9 at the Panther Invite. In the men's shot put, graduate student Darius King leads the pack with his school record-breaking and personal-best mark of 20.06m. Sophomore Thai Thompson leads the MVC in the men's heptathlon category with a score of 4856, recorded on Jan. 22 at the Jack Jennett Invitational.
The MVC Indoor Championships kicks off on Friday at 11:30 a.m. and continues through Sunday at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
