Panthers Head to Ames for Iowa State Classic

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI track and field is set to compete at the Iowa State Classic, hosted by Iowa State in Ames, Iowa this Friday and Saturday. Friday's competition kicks off with field events at 1:00 p.m. and track events beginning with the women's 5000 meters at 4:00 p.m. The meet will resume on Saturday with track events kicking off with the women's 60-meter hurdles at noon and field events starting with the women's shot put at 1:00 p.m. No spectators will be allowed in Lied Recreation Athletic Center, but a live stream will be available through FloTrack. Live results will also be available.
Last Time Out
UNI tallied 12 first-place finishes last Saturday at the Ted Nelson Dual hosted by Minnesota State in Mankato, Minn. Graduate student Darius King and senior Tayshaun Cooper led the Panthers, capturing two first-place finishes apiece. King won the men's shot put (18.81m) and weight throw (18.83m) while Cooper captured gold in the men's 60 meters (6.82) and 200 meters (22.04). In the women's 800 meters, the Panthers went 1-2-3-4 with freshman Sophia Jungling leading the pack, clocking a personal-best of 2:13.47, followed by junior Paige Holub (2:15.66, PR), sophomore Noel James (2:18.00, PR) and freshman Sydney Schaffer (2:18.44) The Panthers also picked up wins in the men's 60-meter hurdles, men's mile, men's long jump, women's 5000 meters, women's pole vault, women's high jump and women's 4x400 meter relay.
Ranked in the NCAA
King sits at fifth in the NCAA rankings with his personal-best and school record of 20.06 in the men's shot put, recorded on Jan. 22 at the Jack Jennett Invitational.
MVC Standings
With the MVC Championships in two weeks, the Panthers lead the conference in eight events. After the Ted Nelson Dual meet, Jill Bennett clinched the top spot in the women's 400 meters rankings with a time of 57.27, and freshman Parker Kiewiet landed in first in the men's long jump category with a leap of 7.30m. The women's 4x400 meter relay team leads the conference after clocking a time of 3:54.84 last Saturday. The Panthers also remain first in the men's 200 meters, women's 5000 meters, women's long jump, men's shot put, and men's heptathlon.
