
Panther soccer wins Fair Play Award, 5 receive conference honors

ST. LOUIS, Missouri - Five different Panther players have been honored with all-conference awards while the UNI women's soccer team has won the MVC Fair Play Award.
The Fair Play Award is annually awarded to the team in the MVC with the fewest penalty cards per match in league games. UNI was only assessed 3 yellow cards throughout the 2021 fall season. None of the 3 yellow cards were assessed during conference play.Â
The Panthers had 3 players make the MVC All-Conference second-team. Junior defender Sandra Thiman, sophomore midfielder Ashley Harrington, and sophomore forward Lauren Heinsch were all selected to the all-conference second team. Senior forward Johnnie Hill was an honorable mention for the all-conference teams.
Heinsch led the team in goals in 2021 with 6 scored, while Harrington led the team in assists with 5. Thiman had a career year with 3 goals, and 4 shots while Hill had 1 goal, 1 assist, and 19 shots on the 2021 season.Â
Freshman midfielder Siri Ott was also recognized for her play this season as a member of the MVC All-Freshman team. Ott led UNI freshman in minutes played during the 2021 season at 1,422 minutes. She also recorded 1 goal, 1 assist, and 11 shots.Â
