UNI football's FCS Championship run ends at Eastern Washington

CHENEY, Wash. – UNI football's run in the FCS Championships ended with a 19-9 loss to No. 4 Eastern Washington.
EWU (10-2) led all four quarters. UNI quarterback Matt Morrissey came out in the second half to replace starter Theo Day.
UNI (6-6) was able to hold EWU to 412 yards, where the Eagles usually averages 563. The Eagles' completion percentage was 63%. EWU averages more than 46 points a game.
The Panthers had 103 rushing yards and 277 yards in receiving for a total of 380.
UNI had nine tackles for a loss of 17 yards. Tim Butcher had two sacks on the day, and Austin Evans notched his third interception of the year.
This was UNI's 22nd appearance in the FCS Championships. Montana is the only team with more playoff appearances with 25.

- Q1: EWU took the early lead with 26-yard pass from quarterback Eric Barriere to Nolan Ulm, but the Eagles missed the PAT. The Eagles led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter.
- Q2: EWU extended its lead with a 22-yard field to go up 9-0 before UNI got a touchdown of its own. Sam Schnee scored his fifth touchdown of the season with a 14-yard pass from Theo Day. A Matthew Cook PAT closed the scoring gap, 9-7.
- Q3: EWU's quarterback Barriere escaped multiple Panther tackles to run it in 18 yards and give the Eagles a bigger lead with 7:47 left in the third quarter. EWU led 16-7 after the PAT.
- Q4: Just four plays into the fourth, EWU's Wyatt Hawkins made a 30-yard field goal to give the Eagles a 19-7 lead. UNI's fourth and goal play was unsuccessful from the 3-yard line with 4:20 left in the game. UNI kept EWU pinned near the goal and gave up a safety to UNI's Bryce Flater. EWU continued to lead, 19-9.
