Panthers off to MVC Cross Country Championships

Cedar Falls, Iowa- The Panthers head back to Normal, Illinois on Friday October 29th, to battle the rest of the conference in the 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championships. The women will compete in a 6K race beginning at 1:05 p.m. CT. The men will compete in an 8K race set to begin at 2:05 p.m. CT. Both races will be taking place at the Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Illinois and hosted by Illinois State University.Â
Panthers to watch include freshman Kiki Connell, currently sitting tenth in the 6K in the conference. Her time of 21:28:8 set at the Gans Creek Classic, then again at the Bradley Pink Classic earlier this month, sets her in contention as a top 10 runner. Kate Crawford is also set to run with her 6K time set at 22:19.9 finishing her in the top 25 of the conference. Senior Mia Rampton is predicted to race well, her best time of 22:35.1 sets her within the top 40. Isabelle Schaffer is also predicted in the top 45 with her time of 22:45.8 set at the Bradley Pink Classic. The Missouri Valley Conference voted for Loyola Chicago to win overall in the Pre-Championship poll, placing the Panther women at 6th overall, only 7 points behind 5th place.Â
For the men, Sam McCool has continued to hold his lead for the Panthers putting him in the top 25 in the 8K with a time of 25:13.2 set at this course earlier this season. Close behind McCool is freshman Payton Marrs, his time of 25:24.4 set at the Bradley Pink Classic sets him in the top 35. Caleb Schumaker sits behind Marrs with his time of 25:25.0 set at the Red Bird Invited earlier this season. In the Pre-Championship poll, Bradley is voted to take home the Championship overall by 2 points over Drake. Predicting the Panther men to place 7th overall.Â
In March, both the men and women finished 5th with a total of 124 points and 129 points respectively in the 2020 Championship.Â
