UNI at Drake | Oct. 29 | 7 pm (News/Talk 1540 KXEL | ESPN+)
Â
The Panthers:
- UNI continues its lengthy stretch of road tilts by visiting Drake. This four-match road swing represents the first time in program history that the Panthers will play four consecutive contests on the road against Missouri Valley Conference competition.
Â
- The Bulldogs are the only team that the Panthers have played at least once in every season. The first official year of UNI volleyball was 1975.
Â
- UNI leads the all-time series with 85 wins compared to 15 losses and two ties. During this past season, Drake swept the regular season series, but UNI earned a 3-0 victory in the MVC Quarterfinals.
Â
- Four of the last six Panther contests this year have gone the distance with UNI sporting a 2-2 record within those five-setters. The Panthers have played a full five sets five times in their previous nine total matches after having each of the first 14 tilts decided in either three of four frames.
Â
- Olivia Tjernagel is coming off a breakout weekend that featured her first-ever double-figure outing. Tjernagel had a season-high-tying four kills Friday at Illinois State before exploding for a career-best 12 terminations Saturday at Bradley. She led UNI last week in kill percentage (.432) and hitting (.351).
Â
- Emily Holterhaus recorded her second-ever 20-kill match Saturday at Bradley with exactly 20 terminations. It was the first 20-kill performance for the Panthers since March 27 (Kaylissa Arndorfer (20) at Bradley) and the first such effort for Holterhaus since posting a personal-high 21 kills March 21 versus Loyola.
Â
- Tayler Alden tops UNI with 26 service aces in 23 contests this season. The left-hander finished among the team leaders last season with 28 service aces over 22 matches played as a true freshman.
Â
- Carly Spies leads the 2021 Panthers with a career-high 90 blocks. She is on pace to become UNI's first blocker to reach 100 rejections since Piper Thomas posted 119 blocks during the 2017 season.
- Inga Rotto (114), Kaylissa Arndorfer (80), and Emily Holterhaus (80) are on consecutive contest playing streaks to begin their college careers. Rotto is also on a 39-match blocking streak dating back to last February.
- UNI returns 13 women that were with the program for the spring season including 2020-21 All-MVC honorees Emily Holterhaus (First Team), Inga Rotto (Second Team), and Tayler Alden (Freshman Team).
- Despite the challenges of the delayed 2020 campaign, the Panthers still qualified for the MVC Championship and made it to the league semifinals. UNI has earned tournament bids and semifinal berths for a league-record 36 seasons in a row.
