Panthers Fall to Drake 77-56 in MVC Quarter Final

ST. LOUIS – The UNI men's basketball took on the Bulldogs of Drake University on Friday afternoon, falling to the in-state rival 77-56 in the MVC Tournament quarter final game.
The Panthers trailed early in the first half and trailed by as many as 17 points. The Panthers fought back in the final minute and only trailed the Bulldogs 43-33 at the break. AJ Green finished with 10 first half points and recorded a team high two assists. Isaiah Brown added eight points, Spencer Haldeman added seven points, and Tywhon Pickford finished with six first half points.
The Panthers roared back in the second half, getting within two points just four minutes into the half. UNI got within two points on three separate occasions in the second half but were unable to even the game. Austin Phyfe made a layup with 12:36 remaining in the game, the Bulldogs would go on an 18 point run that was finally broke after Isaiah Brown dropped a bucket with 2:21 left in the game. The Panthers were unable to score in the final minutes to fall 77-56.
After shooting 35.5 percent (11-31) from the floor in the first half the Panthers shot just 27 percent (10-37) in the second. While three point shooting has been a strong point in the Panther offense this season the team went 5-25 from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs managed to make 50 percent of their shots from the field while downing 8 of 17 three pointers.

The Panthers will now wait for selection Sunday to decide if the team will earn an At-Large bid into the NCAA Tournament or accept the invitation into the National Invitational Tournament. The Selection Show will designate the 68 teams entered into the NCAA Tournament will air at 5 PM CT on CBS.
