Panthers Fall to the Sycamores 67-64

HERRE HAUTE, Indiana – The UNI men's basketball team fell to the Sycamores of Indiana State 67-64 on Thursday night. The Panthers now move to 22-5 overall and 11-4 in the MVC.
The Panthers trailed the Sycamore early and Thursday night and trailed 40-23 at halftime. The Panthers went 8-31 from the field in the opening 20 minutes, making just 2 of the teams 14 three point attempts. UNI managed to win the rebounding effort, hauling in 22 rebounds to the Sycamores 19.
The Panther offense had open looks throughout the game but were unable to covert, shooting 26 percent in the first half and 41 percent for the game. While three point shooting has been the Panthers strength this season, the team shot just 28 percent from beyond the arc. The Panthers trailed by as many as 21 before the second half comeback getting within one point with 56 seconds remaining in the game and again with 8 seconds remaining.
The Sycamores finished with three players in double digit point totals and led by as many as 21 points in the second half. Tyreke Key and Jake LaRavia led the way for the Sycamores with 18 points apiece. The Panthers out rebounded the Sycamores 40-31, hauling in 12 offensive rebounds.

The Panthers will now take on the Salukis of Southern Illinois in the McLeod Center on Sunday, February 23. The Salukis are 15-12 overall and 9-5 in the MVC this season The Panthers and Sulukis met up in Carbondale on January 22 with the Salukis coming out on top 68-66. Sunday's game will serve as the Panthers senior night and is designated as a purple out. The game is set for a 1 PM tip and will be broadcast on ESPNU.
