Strong Second Half Propels Panthers Past Aces

EVANSVILLE, Indiana – The UNI men's basketball team defeated the Purple Aces of Evansville 80-68 on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers now move to 19-3 overall and 8-2 in the MVC.
The Panthers took a 30-16 lead in halftime after shooting46.2% from the field. The Panthers recorded 8 turnovers in the first half while adding 8 steals. Freshman Noah Carter led the Panthers with 8 first half points. UNI recorded 15 points of the bench and 20 of the 30 points coming in the paint. Noah Carter hit the Panthers first three pointer with 2:35 remaining in the half. UNI held the Purple Aces to 26.9% from the field and held them scoreless from beyond the arc.
Evansville opened the second half hot, making their first 8 field goal attempts and cutting the lead to just four. The Panthers responded and maintain a 10 point lead throughout the second half, finished with 50 second half points.. Three Panthers finished with double digit point totals in Austin Phyfe (16), AJ Green (15), and Trae Berhow (15).
The Panthers Shot 50% from the field and knocked in five three pointers. UNI hauled in 30 total rebounds led by Justin Dahl, AJ Green and Trae Berhow, all finishing with five apiece.

The Panthers will hit the road again for a midweek match up with the Crusaders of Valparaiso University. The Crusaders are 11-11 overall and 4-5 in the MVC with a 7 pm game against Illinois State still to play on Saturday night. Wednesday's game will tip a 7 pm and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
