CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Eight UNI Panther football alums are still competing for spots in NFL camps and with one preseason game in the books, five of the six have played and have impressed.
Daurice Fountain has been turning heads for weeks at the Indianapolis Colts camp and put up the numbers in the Colts 24-16 loss to the Bills in the first preseason game.
He grabbed a team-high five receptions for 63 yards, including a 26-yard reception.
The game highlights a strong camp showing that has reporters around Colts camp singing his praises.
L.J. Fort is also impressing in Eagles Camp. After spending four years in Pittsburgh, he signed a free-agent deal with the Eagles during the offseason and he is proving to be a sound investment after the first few weeks of camp.
He had four tackles in the first preseason game against Tennessee.
Teammate Deiondre' Hall is still battling at the safety position for the Eagles. He had three tackles against the Titans in preseason action.
David Johnson saw limited action in Arizona's preseason win against the Chargers. (Two rushes for four yards and one reception for 14 yards.) He is settling into his role under new coach Kliff Kingsbury, including possibly splitting out as a receiver.
After a huge season for the Salt Lake Stallions in the AAF, Karter Schult picked up an opportunity with the Vikings. He played in the preseason opener against New Orleans. He didn't record a tackle but had a key QB pressure that resulted in a pick-6.
Xavier Williams enters his second season with Kansas City, he is currently out with a back injury.
Former Panthers Terrell Sinkfield and Makinton Dorleant were picked up this week. Dorleant was picked up by the Raiders and Sinkfield was signed by the GIants.
