
Florman, Taylor Honored as Scholar All-Americans

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America honored rising senior Katie Taylor and Crystal Florman as Honorable Mention Scholar All-Americans. Both Florman and Taylor received the honor for the 2017-18 season as well.
A finance major, Taylor achieved a 3.97 cumulative grade point average. She claimed Missouri Valley Conference titles in the 200 individual medley and the 200 backstroke in February. Taylor also holds UNI school records in the 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 200 individual medley, and 400 individual medley.
A senior last year, Florman completed with a 3.83 cumulative grade point average as a communication disorders major. She was honored as the Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Year after winning the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 100 butterfly, holding school records in each of those events. Florman continues to practice with the team as a post-graduate.
1,221 student-athletes were named to the first team with an additional 890 recognized as honorable mention. To receive honorable mention, swimmers must have achieved at least a 3.5 grade point average and a "B" time standard, as opposed to competing in the national championships to qualify for first team.
