AUSTIN – UNI shot putter Darius King threw 16.90m (55-feet-5.5) to finish 23rd at the NCAA National Championship hosted by the University of Texas.
The junior opened the competition with a throw of 55-feet-1 on his first throw and topped that throw on his second with his best toss of the day. He scratched his third throw.
He was unable to advance to the final that included nine throwers and his tremendous season came to a close.
King's finish at the championship marks the end of the season for Panther Track and Field, a year that included a dominant men's title in the Missouri Valley Outdoor Championship.
The official collegiate season is now over for UNI, but a bevy of Panther athletes will compete at the USATF Championships in Des Moines, July 24-28. Panther thrower Jessica Heims is also set to represent Team USA at the Parapan America Games in Lima, Peru, in August.
