UNI Softball to Face In State Foe Iowa State

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI softball squares off with in-state foe Iowa State on Tuesday, April 16 in Ames, Iowa. The teams will play a single game, which is set for a 4:00 p.m. first pitch start time.
Last season, the Panthers dropped their game against the Cyclones in extra innings, losing 10-7. UNI is 36-42-1 all-time against Iowa State, since 1975. Iowa State owns a 20-11 advantage all-time when the two teams matchup in Ames.
Under head coach Ryan Jacobs, the team is 6-6 against Iowa State. The Panthers are 2-3 on the road against Iowa State, under Jacobs.
The Panthers are coming off of a three-game sweep of the Valparaiso Crusaders that saw the team hit nine home runs and tally 36 RBIs. UNI is now second in the Missouri Valley with 46 home runs in 2019, trailing the Bradley Braves by six home runs.
Sammey Bunch is the team's single-season home run record holder after she hit three long balls last weekend. Bunch, a junior, is four home runs short of tying Jen Larsen's career home run record (30). Bunch's 44 RBI are tied for second in a season in UNI's history and she is 23 RBI short of tying the UNI career record.
Courtney Krodinger is one sacrifice fly short of tying the single-season record for UNI. C. Krodinger's five sacrifice flies are top-10 in the NCAA and she is tops in the Missouri Valley.
Emma Valainis had a breakout series against Valparaiso, as she hit the first two home runs of her career and drove in seven runs in three-games. Valainis finished with at least two RBIs in each game, while also hitting a home run in back-to-back games.
Following their game against Iowa State, the Panthers return home for a series with the Bradley Braves, April 19-20. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday, April 19 beginning at 12:00 p.m., and a single game on Saturday, April 20 beginning at 11:00 a.m.
