LAS VEGAS – Alabama rode a second-half surge to an 87-77 win over the previously unbeaten UNI Friday night at the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas.
The Panthers outscored the Crimson Tide 21-16 in the first quarter and 20-15 in the fourth quarter, but struggled to hold off the offensive power of the Crimson Tide. Alabama was 31-58 (53.4%) from the field and 9-20 (45%) from the three-point line in the game and outrebounded UNI 27-21.
Despite the struggles to stem the Crimson Tide offense, UNI had a strong shooting performance. Five players scored in double figures, led by Nicole Kroeger's 12 points. The Panthers were 25-55 (43.6%) from the field and 10-24 (41.7%) from the three-point line.
UNI was 19-24 from the free-throw line and had only nine turnovers in the game.
Karli Rucker (12), Megan Maahs (12), Kam Finley (11) and Kristina Cavey (12) joined Koreger in double figues.
The loss drops the Panthers to 5-1 on the year while Alabama is now 5-1 as well.
UNI returns to the court Saturday at 7:45 in a game against Ohio State. The Buckeyes fell to Summit League favorite South Dakota 68-53 Friday evening.
