Cook Earns Special Teams Player of the Week Honors

ST. LOUIS – UNI freshman kicker Matthew Cook was 3-3 on field goals and 3-3 on PATs Saturday in rainy conditions at Missouri State to earn Missouri Valley Conference Special Teams Player of the Week Honors.
The freshman opened the scoring for the Panthers with a 49-yard field goal to put UNI up 3-0 in the second quarter. He added a 22-yard field goal minutes later to give UNI a 6-0 lead. In the third quarter, he again hit, this time from 38-yards out, extending the Panther lead to 22-0.
He was also 3-3 in PATs on the day.
On kickoffs, he had seven kickoffs and averaged 61.3 yards per kick, he recorded five touchbacks on the day and one kick was fumbled.
He is now 12-14 on the year. He has three more made field goals than the second leading kicker in the league. He has the best percentage in the MVFC (85.7) and the longest made field goal (50).
He has made three field goals this season of 49 yards or longer.
It is his second Special Teams Player of the Week honor. He was named the Valley and the National Special Teams Player of the Week after the week one game at Iowa State when he opened his career with a 50-yard make at Jack Trice Stadium.
The honor is the ninth of the season for UNI. Other player of the Week honors include Isaiah Weston, Will McElvain (2), Elerson G. Smith (2) and Chris Kolarevic (2).
