Panther Track Splits for Notre Dame, Nebraska Meets

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI track and field team splits into two squads to compete at a pair of elite meets this weekend. The bulk of the Panther elite runners will compete at the Notre Dame Meyo Invite while field event athletes will compete at Nebraska's Husker Invite.
The Panthers enter the week ranked No. 22 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings on the women's side, while the men jumped six spots from No. 16 to No. 10 in the region. The men's shot put squad is ranked No. 2 in the NCAA for the #EventSquad Rankings.
Both events begin Thursday in at the Loftus Sports Center in South Bend, Ind., with the bulk of the meet taking place Saturday.
At the Meyo, the group is highlighted by Evan Long who is in the NCAA Top 75 in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter run. He is currently first in the Missouri Valley Conference in the 400-meter run and second in the 200-meter dash.
Connor Ham is first in the 60-meter hurdles, and Tayshaun Cooper has the best time in the 60-meter dash. The men's 4x400 meter relay team is tops in the MVC and is currently ranked 20th in the NCAA.
On the women's side, Maddie McCalla is ranked first in the 400-meter dash and second in the 200-meter dash in the MVC.
In Nebraska, the Panthers bring a strong group highlighted by men's shot putters Keegan Tritle, who is ranked second in the MVC in shot put, and Darius King, who is ranked fourth. Isaac Holtz, Thomas Yezek and Billy Blaser are all in the MVC top 10. Holtz and King are also in the top seven in the MVC for the weight throw.
On the women's side, Alanna Nietert is currently fifth in the MVC in the weight throw.
