UNI Wins Big 12 Home Dual With Air Force, 29-9

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI stayed perfect in the Big 12 with a 29-9 win over Air Force.
The Panthers got bonus points from Jay Schwarm, Max Thomsen, Bryce Steiert, Taylor Lujan and Drew Foster.
UNI now leads the series 6-2 with Air Force and improved to 3-4 overall, 3-0 Big 12. Air Force is now 4-4 overall, 1-3 in the Big 12.
The Panthers opened with a win at 197 pounds. Tyrell Gordon of Waterloo, Iowa, got his first career Big 12 win since the freshman's redshirt was pulled earlier this year.
Schwarm was the first to pick up bonus points for the Panthers at 125 pounds. He racked nearly five minutes of riding time in his 10-0 major decision over Sidney Flores.
After a loss at 133 pounds, Josh Alber returned the momentum in the Panthers' favor with 5-0 decision over Garrett O'Shea (AF). Alber is on a 10-match win streak that dates back to the Midlands Championships Dec. 29. Thomsen rolled Tommy Stager at 149 pounds to get the tech fall as time expired in the match.
After a loss at 157 pounds, the Panthers secured bonus points in the final three matches to seal the win.
The Panthers stay home all weekend, hosting Oklahoma 2 p.m. Jan. 27. The series with the Sooners is tied 8-8, with UNI taking the last match 25-9 in 2018. The two teams first met in 1926.
