CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI track and field team travels to Fargo, N.D. for the first-ever Bison Team Cup, a triangular scored meet with UNI joining North Dakota State and Wyoming for the event Saturday, Jan. 19, at NDSU's Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility.
Teams are allowed to score their top two place winners in each event, with each team guaranteed a minimum of two competitors in the fastest heat on the track and the best flight in the field. With six places scoring team points, scoring will be 9-7-5-4-3-2.
Â
Because of the limited entries and the team-centric format, the meet has been compressed into an approximately four-hour time window. The men's weight throw is the first event at 10:30 a.m., with the long jump, pole vault, and high jump starting at 11 a.m. Running events will begin at 12:30 p.m. and be concluded before 3 p.m.
The Panthers are coming off of a strong performance at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City and are looking to continue to build on the early success.Â
On the women's side, Maddie McCalla has started the season strong. She broke a 24-year old school record in the 300m dash in December before setting a meet record in the 400m at the Hawkeye Invite. McKayla Cole took the 3K title at the Hawkeye Invite and Patrice Watson took third in the 60-meter hurdles.Â
For the UNI men, Keegan Tritle won the shot put at the Hawkeye Invite but faces a tough competition in NDSU's Kristoff Thomsen who is currently ranked 15th in the country and Alex Tally who is ranked 18th.Â
In the 400-meter dash, Evan Long currently has the 18th-best time in the NCAA in the country and Sven Van Den Bergh is ranked 20th and the UNI 4x400m –relay team currently had the 26th-best time in the country.Â
