
No. 10 USC too much for Panthers

LOS ANGELES – The 10th-ranked USC Trojan volleyball team outlasted every challenge from UNI en route to a 27-25, 25-23, 25-20 win in game four of the USC Trojan Invite at the Galen Center in Los Angeles Saturday.
The two team traded point for nearly the entire first set, but the Panthers took a 25-24 lead. USC then rallied off three-straight points to take the 27-25 win.
In set two, USC looked to be in complete control, leading 24-18, but UNI scored five-straight points to cut the lead to 24-23 before the Trojans closed out the set 25-23.
In the final set, USC led 15-14 before they rattled off four-straight points to take control of the set en route to the 25-20 win.
Karlie Taylor led the Panthers with 17 kills while Piper Thomas added nine and Jaydlin Seehase added seven. Taylor, Kendyl Sorge and Abbi Staack all notched 11 digs and Thomas tallied two solo blocks and an assist block. Rachel Koop tallied 35 assists.
The Panthers had 22 errors and hit .173 on the match while USC hit .239 with 14 errors. UNI tallied 53 digs to 37 for the Trojans, but USC had 10 team blocks to four for the Panthers.
UNI is now 1-1 on the season with both matches coming against top-15 opponents. The Panthers close out the Trojan Invitational with at 7 p.m. Saturday against No. 5 Kentucky. The game will be broadcast live on KXEL 1450 AM or on UNIPanthers.com. Live video is available on the USC Pac-12 Network stream.
