Panthers To Face Missouri State in Championship Match

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team advanced to the championship match at the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament after defeating Stony Brook 4-2.
Harri Proudfoot and Valentina Caro defeated Ester Chikvashvili and Ana Carrion, 6-4 in the No. 2 doubles spot. The Panthers would win the doubles point due to a forfeit in the No. 3 spot.
In singles action, Savanna Hunt won by default in the No. 6 singles spot.
Reghan Lynch defeated Chikvashvili in the No. 2 singles spot, 6-2, 7-5. Caro defeated Amanda Foo in three sets in the No. 5 singles spot, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 to send UNI to the championship match.
For only the third time in school history, UNI will play for the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship. The Panthers will be looking for their first MVC tournament title. UNI's previous two title match appearances came in 2005 when the Panthers fell to the Illinois State Redbirds and in 2009 when the Panthers dropped the crown to the Wichita State Shockers.
The Panthers will face Missouri State at 10 a.m. tomorrow for the championship.
