McMichael Named to MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

University of Northern Iowa junior women's golfer Sarah McMichael has been named to the Missouri Valley Conference's Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete squad as an honorable mention selection.
McMichael (Nashua, Iowa/Nashua-Plainfield HS) has maintained a 3.79 cumulative grade point average with a biology major. McMichael made seven starts for the Panthers and had a 78.04 stroke average in 24 rounds in 2017-18.
She shot a season-best 74 in the third round of the ORU/SFA Spring Break Shootout. She tied that season-best 74 in the second round of the MVC Championship meet held at Sand Creek Station in Newman, Kansas. McMichael helped the Panthers place second in the 2018 MVC Championship. She tied for 11th at the ORU/SFA event and helped lead UNI to its first outright team title since 2012 with rounds of 81-81-74. McMichael tied for third at the Drake Bulldog Invitational (Oct. 9-10) with scores of 79-76. She tied for sixth at the MVC Preview (Oct. 16-17) with scores of 75-75-76 as the Panthers tied for the team title. McMichael tied for sixth at the Indiana State Spring Invitational (April 8-9) with rounds of 76 and 78.
The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic Academic All-America® program. Nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of her team's rounds or played at the MVC Championship.
The Scholar-Athlete Team was voted on by the league's golf sports information directors.
