Spencer, Panthers Stifle the Redhawks' Bats

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Panthers started off their 2018 campaign with a dominating performance on both sides of the ball Friday afternoon, beating Southeast Missouri, 7-0.
Both teams struggled on offense early, but in the fourth inning the Panthers scratched across two runs against Southeast Missouri pitcher Haley Thogmartin. Claire Dudek started off the fourth inning with a single to left center, and Brittney Krodinger followed with a walk, while Tianna Drahn lined a single up the middle to load the bases. Bailey Kennedy hit a gap shot through the infield to score Dudek and Krodinger which gave the Panthers an early lead.
The sixth inning proved to be the dagger for the Redhawks in the game. Aided by a couple of SEMO fielding errors, the Panthers plated five more runs, which was more than enough in the end. UNI's electric sixth inning was ignited by Drahn's single to third base, which drove in Courtney Krodinger. Momentum stayed in the Panthers' favor as a botched fly ball by the Redhawks drove in two more runs.
Sophomore pitcher Jaclyn Spencer twirled a dazzler against the Redhawks. Spencer held Southeast Missouri to five hits and zero runs, which marked her 10th career complete game and fifth career shutout.
With today's win against SEMO, UNI now has six victories in the all-time series between the programs.
HIGHLIGHT PERFORMANCE(S):
Offensive: Bailey Kennedy drove in two runs and provided a spark for the offense batting in the leadoff spot.
Defensive: Spencer's stellar start earns her defensive honors in the win over the Redhawks. Spencer was able to silence the Redhawks' bats and keep them off of the scoreboard, while also recording a putout in her lone fielding opportunity.
