Lohaus Lifts UNI to Win Over Bradley, 74-65

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Junior guard Wyatt Lohaus scored a career-high 25 points to lift the University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team to a 74-65 win over the Bradley Braves on Wednesday in the McLeod Center.
UNI snapped a three-game losing streak and moved to 12-13 overall and 4-9 in league play on the season, while Bradley fell for the 11th straight time in the McLeod Center. The Braves fall to 17-9 overall and 7-6 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
The Panthers had four five-point leads in the first half and led 32-30 at the break. UNI committed eight turnovers in the first half and shot 41.7 percent from the floor. UNI limited the Braves to 36.4 percent shooting in the opening half, but Bradley made 13-of-15 shots from the free throw line in the opening 20 minutes.
Bradley seized the momentum in the second half and built a six-point lead at 48-42 with 13:17 left in the game. UNI then leaned on Lohaus and the junior guard answered with a pair of three-pointers that capped an 8-0 run and gave the Panthers a 50-48 lead with 11:22 remaining.
Lohaus drilled another jumper and senior Bennett Koch went to work inside to complete a 9-2 run that gave the Panthers a 59-52 advantage with 7:52 on the clock. A Spencer Haldeman three-pointer with 3:38 left pushed the margin back to nine at 65-56. The Braves would pull within four down the stretch but could get no closer.
The Panthers drained eight free throws in the final minute to salt it away for the home squad.
UNI will be back in action Saturday at Drake. The Panthers and Bulldogs will tip at 3 p.m. in the Knapp Center.
NOTES: The Panthers bench led by Lohaus outscored the Braves bench, 47-34 ... Hunter Rhodes scored all nine of his points from the free throw line as he was a perfect 9-for-9 at the charity stripe ... Bennett Koch has scored 947 career points following his 11-point output tonight ... Tywhon Pickford has tallied 199 rebounds this season and needs one more to become the 14th MVC freshmen to post 200 rebounds in a season ... UNI outrebounded Bradley, 33-26 ... UNI has made at least one three-pointer in 586 straight games.
