NORMAL, Illinois - The Illinois State Redbirds rode a second-half flurry of three-point shooting to a 79-75 victory over the University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team on Saturday at Redbird Arena.

The Redbirds sank 15 three-pointers overall with 11 of them coming in the second half. Illinois State began the second half by making its first eight three-point shots to come back from an 11-point halftime deficit.

Illinois State's Milik Yarbrough scored a game-high 25 points, while handing out nine assists and grabbing six rebounds with three steals.

UNI had three players reach double-figure scoring in Klint Carlson (20), Spencer Haldeman (16) and Tywhon Pickford (14). Carlson nabbed nine rebounds, while Pickford corralled eight misses.

UNI overcame an early four-point deficit to lead Illinois State at the half, 37-26. UNI used a 10-0 run to take a 25-19 lead with 4:38 left in the half. The Panthers extended the lead to eight points on a steal by Pickford that led to a fastbreak layup by Haldeman with 1:15 remaining in the half. Haldeman then closed the first-half scoring with a three-pointer with :32 left to give UNI an 11-point advantage in the intermission.

Carlson enjoyed a stellar first half as he scored 12 points to go along with seven rebounds and two assists. Carlson was 4-of-5 from the field, including a perfect 2-of-2 from three-point land. UNI drained 5-of-10 three-points in the opening 20 minutes.

UNI falls to 13-15 overall and 5-11 in MVC play, while Illinois State improves to 15-13 overall and 9-7 MVC.

UNI will play again Tuesday at Valparaiso. The Panthers and Crusaders will tip at 8 p.m. at The ARC.
