UNI Women's Hoops Tops Creighton 65-55

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Megan Maahs notched her second double-double of the season and UNI women's basketball used a big third quarter to overcome a slow start to earn a 65-55 win over former Missouri Valley Conference foe Creighton Tuesday evening at the McLeod Center.
The Panthers trailed 23-20 at the half but outscored the Blue Jays 22-10 in the third and 45-32 in the second half to earn the 10-point win.
Maahs scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half and grabbed a game-high 11 boards. Ellie Howell also put together a strong performance with 15 points on 6-11 shooting. Heidi Hillyard scored nine points and added six rebounds.
The win brings the season record to 2-2 on the year while Creighton falls to 1-3 on the season.
The Turning Point…
Howell hit a seemingly insignificant basket with just a few seconds remaining in the first half. The shot cut the deficit to three at the break, but it was also the beginnings of a 13-0 run that gave UNI a 31-23 lead with 5:58 to play in the third quarter. The Blue Jays would never recover in the game.
The MVP of the Game Was…
Maahs was huge for the Panthers, especially in the second half. She notched her season-high in rebounds and tied her season-high on points.

The Panthers travel to Long Beach, California, for games for games against Long Beach State on Friday at 9 p.m. CT and Boise State Saturday at 4 p.m. CT at the Beach Classic.
