MILWAUKEE – The No. 19 Marquette women's basketball team opened with a 7-0 run and never looked back en route to a 102-61 win over UNI Sunday afternoon in the second round of the Preseason WNIT at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee.
The Panthers failed to stop the Golden Eagle offensive juggernaut that has racked up 293 points in three games so far this season. Six Marquette players scored in double figures led by Allazia Blockton with 22.
On the Panther side, Ellie Howell scored a team-high 15 points. The effort helped her surpass the 1,000-career point mark. She now sits at 1,005. Abby Gerrits and Bre Gunnels scored 12 each.
The Panthers were 21-66 (31.8 percent) from the field and 15-48 (31.3 percent) from the three-point line. UNI saw just five free throw attempts in the game, including none in the first and fourth quarters. UNI was 4-5 (80 percent) from the line.
The loss drops UNI to 1-1 on the year and into a consolation game for the Preseason WNIT. The Panthers will travel to face Northern Illinois who fell to Iowa State in their second-round game. The game will take place in DeKalb, Illinois, on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m.
