GAME NOTES
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI men's basketball's season-opening exhibition against Wartburg College has been moved to 3 p.m. on Sunday to accommodate a potential Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) soccer tournament match at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex. To ensure the opportunity to host the MVC Tournament match, UNI made adjustments to both event start times which allows the potential MVC quarterfinal match to be broadcast on ESPN Plus at noon. Additionally, the change allows Panther fans the opportunity to attend both home athletic events.
The Panthers and Knights have a long history of competition dating back to the 1951-52 season. The Panthers lead the series 18-8 and have won 13 of the last 14 contest. Last season, the Panthers defeated the Knights, 72-43, with help from a 25-point performance by Bennett Koch.
Sunday's exhibition game will kick off the 2018-19 season that looks promising for the Panthers. The team returns MVC All-Newcomer, Tywhon Pickford and MVC All-Bench Team member Wyatt Lohaus. Both players will be key contributors this season as the Panthers look to improve on their 16-16 record a year ago.
Head coach Ben Jacobson enters his 13th season with the team with an overall record of 250-150. Jacobson is a three-time MVC Coach of the Year and ranks sixth all-time in in MVC coaching victories and sixth all-time in MVC only wins with 130 triumphs.
