
UNI Volleyball Fall to #18 Marquette

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI Panthers' 10 match win streak came to end Sunday afternoon, falling to the #18 Golden Eagles of Marquette University with set scores of 25-20, 20-25, 16-25. 24-26.
The Panthers took the opening set behind a great performance by junior Karlie Taylor who recorded eight kills and six digs to give the Panthers the 1-0 lead.
The Panthers started the second set with 5-0 run and then stalled, the team struggled to get the offense moving the rest of the set, recording a -.029 attack percentage with 11 total errors. The Panthers tied the second set at 14-14 but couldn't hold off Marquette and moved to the third set tied 1-1.
The Golden Eagles dominated the third set from start to finish holding the Panthers to 11 kills on 24 total attacks.
The Panthers seemed to come back to life in the fourth set. After Marquette scored the opening point, the Panthers held the lead or were tied until the final points. Tied at 24-24 Marquette's Hope Werch put the Golden Eagles up one and sealed the deal moments later off a Panther serve receive error.
Junior Karlie Taylor recorded her 15th double-double of the season, leading the team in kills and digs with 20 and 17 respectively. Senior Piper Thomas recorded 13 kills and Jaydlin Seehase finished with 9 kills and 9 digs.
Rachel Koop added 44 assists, 11 digs and 3 kills, while Kendyl Sorge finished with 12 digs and 4 assists on the night.
Kate Busswitz and Inga Rotto teamed up to each record four block assists, all four coming in the fourth set and provided momentum in the final minutes.
The Panthers now sit at 16-7 overall and 10-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC).

The Panthers return to MVC action on Friday Oct. 26 when they host Valparaiso. The Crusaders are currently 20-5 overall and 7-3 in conference play. Sitting in fourth place in the conference, the Crusaders are led by Katherine Carlson and Allison Ketcham who both average over 2.60 kills per set. The Panthers are 8-0 all-time against the Crusaders.
