
UNI Volleyball Defeats Drake 3-2

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team extended their win streak to 10 Friday night after a 5 set victory over in-state rival Drake University. The Panthers won by set scores of 25-19, 23-25, 25-15, 22-25, 15-5.
The Panthers defeated the Bulldogs for the 44th time in a row, a streak dating back to November 23, 1996. Head coach Bobbi Petersen in undefeated against the Bulldogs and now sits at 37-0 all-time.
Karlie Taylor finished with a match high 25 kills while recording 11 digs for her 14th double-double of the season. Piper Thomas had another tremendous performance, recording 17 kills and 0 errors for .472 attack percentage.
Libero, Kendyl Sorge finished the night with a team high 31 digs and 4 assists. Jaydlin Seehase added 13 kills and three block assists while Rachel Koop recorded 60 assists and 12 digs.
The Bulldogs opened the match with the opening point but failed to retake the lead in the first set. The second set was dominated by the Panthers early and took a 22-21 lead late in the set but fell while recording a team attack percentage of .395. The panthers maintained a 4 point lead throughout the third set and took the set from a Rachel Koop service ace.
The fourth set saw a sluggish start from the Panthers that continued the entire set, and eventually let to a 22-25 loss. After up and down swings all match long the Panthers dominated the fifth set behind Kate Busswitz and her 4 block assists in the final set. The Bulldogs recorded 7 errors in the 15-5 set, giving the Panthers the victory.

The Panthers continue their homecoming weekend on Sunday, hosting #18 Marquette University. The Golden Eagles are currently 17-4 after a 3-0 victory over St. Johns University Friday night. Sunday's match will begin at 2 pm in the McLeod Center.
