UNI Women's Basketball Picked Second in MVC Poll

ST.LOUIS – UNI women's basketball was picked second in the Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Poll and junior Forward Megan Maahs was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team released by the Conference Thursday.
Defending champion Drake received 35 first-place votes and 363 points overall. UNI garnered four first-place votes and 325 points. Missouri State, Southern Illinois and Illinois State rounded out the remainder of the top-five.
The Panthers enter the 2018-19 season with four consecutive post-season appearances. UNI went 13-5 in MVC play last season before falling to Drake in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship game.
UNI lost just one player to graduation and returns four starters and 83 percent of the scoring from last season.
Coach Tanya Warren is the winningest coach in UNI history and the longest tenured active coach in the Valley with a career record of 205-153.
Maahs averaged 10.4 points and 9.8 rebounds on the season and tallied 14 double-doubles. She was named to the 2017-18 MVC All-Conference team and the MVC All-Defensive Team.
UNI opens the season with an exhibition game against Upper Iowa on Nov. 4 at the McLeod Center. The season gets started in earnest when the Panthers host Delaware in the first round of the WNIT on Nov. 9.
