UNI Triumphs Over Austin Peay, 3-1

CLARKSVILLE, Tennessee - The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team stayed perfect on the season with a 3-1 victory at Austin Peay on Sunday at the Culver's Governors Challenge. UNI won by set scores of 25-19, 25-23, 26-28, 25-12.
UNI is off to a 3-0 start to a season for the first time since winning its first nine matches to initiate the 2011 season.
Senior Heather Hook threatened a triple-double with seven kills, 45 assists and 13 digs. Hook also hit .600 with only one attack error.
Sophomore Karlie Taylor reached 20-plus kills for the second time in three matches this season. Taylor tallied 21 kills to go along with 14 digs and three blocks against the Governors.
Junior Piper Thomas pounded down 16 kills and hit .406. Thomas also notched a team-best six blocks.
UNI secured a season-high nine service aces, including a trio each from juniors Bri Weber and Kendyl Sorge. Sorge was credited with a team-high 21 digs.
The Panthers will be in action next weekend at the Bluejay Invitational in Omaha, Nebraska. UNI will take on USC on Friday at 4:30 p.m., before playing a pair of matches on Saturday against Kentucky (10 a.m.) and Creighton (8 p.m.).
NOTES: Piper Thomas was named the MVP of the Culver's Governors Challenge All-Tournament team ... Karlie Taylor also earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.
