CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Six Panthers will be competing this weekend at University Nationals set in Akron, Ohio.

To participate, wrestlers must be between the ages of 17-27 and be enrolled at an institution of higher learning or have graduated in the previous year.

The field includes several All-Americans and former NCAA qualifiers. Panthers expected to compete in the freestyle division:

Tanner Rohweder – 57K
Darren Eades – 61K
Max Thomsen – 70K
Dan Kelly – 74K
Jacob Holschlag – 86K
Tyler Hoffman – 97K

Thomsen is one of two returning All-Americans for UNI. As a redshirt freshman, he took fifth place in the 149-pound weight class at the 2017 Division I NCAA Championships. It was the highest finish of any UNI freshman since Mark Schwab's fifth-place finish in 1986.

After moving up to 197 pounds from the 184-pound weight class midseason, Holschlag took third place at the MAC Championships to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. He is among the six NCAA qualifiers returning to the Panther squad next year.

After winning two NJCAA national titles at 184 pounds for Iowa Central Community College, Hoffman transferred to UNI and took a redshirt season last year.

Cedar Falls native Kelly wrestled his first career dual for UNI against Central Michigan this last season. He transferred to UNI from Iowa State during his redshirt year in 2016. Kelly will be a sophomore this fall.

Rohweder won the Pat "Flash" Flanagan Open title at 125 pounds last year. The Ankeny native was a four-time state medalist and will be a sophomore this fall.

Storm Lake native Eades will be a junior this fall. Eades placed at the Pat "Flash" Flanagan Open and was third at the Finn Grinaker Cobber Open in the 2016 season.
