Schult To Sign Free Agent Deal With Cleveland Browns

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Defensive lineman and consensus All-American Karter Schult will sign a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns of the AFC North in the National Football League, it was announced today.
Schult will be UNI's 74th player to appear in a NFL camp and the 31st since head coach Mark Farley took over Panther football in 2001.
The Tripoli, Iowa, native finished his career at UNI ranked first all-time in career tackles for loss (56), yards from tackles for loss (266), yards from sacks (215) and quarterback hurries (20). In 2016, he finished third on the team in tackles with 69, but led all of Division I football in sacks (17.0). He also set single-season and single-game UNI records for tackles for loss in 2016.
Schult became the first player in UNI history to win the Buck Buchanan Award, given to the absolute best defensive player in the FCS. He was also named MVFC Defensive Player of the Year, FCS ADA Defensive Player of the Year and Madness FCS Defensive Player of the Year.
He is a two-time All-MVFC first-team honoree and two-time Scholar-Athlete first-team selection at UNI. This past season he became a two-time CoSIDA Academic first-team All-American and was a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, also known as the Academic Heisman.
