The Basics: The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball program is set to take on the DePaul Blue Demons on Friday, March 17 in the NCAA Tournament. The game will tip off at 11 a.m. CT in Starkville, Miss. in Humphrey Coliseum on ESPN2.
About the Blue Demons: The DePaul Blue Demons will appear in its 15th consecutive NCAA Tournament on Friday after winning the Big East Conference regular season championship for the fourth straight season. DePaul enters the game 26-7 overall this year, led by senior guard and Big East Player of the Year, Brooke Schulte. She is averaging 16.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game overall and averaged 20.8 points per game in conference play.

• UNI's game on Friday vs. DePaul will be the Panthers' first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2011 and its third overall.

Multi NCAA Bids for MVC: The MVC claimed two bids into the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2013 (Creighton & Wichita State). Drake secured the league's automatic bid with the school's sixth MVC tourney title, while UNI claimed an at-large berth. The Valley has received two teams in the field 11 times. This year marks the first time since 2000 that the MVC has placed two teams into the field seeded 10th or better.
Valley History in NCAA: The MVC has posted an overall record of 26-46 (.361) in NCAA Tournament play. Drake will make its 11th appearance in the field and has a 6-10 mark all time. The six wins trail only Missouri State (14) among Valley teams. UNI will try for the program's first NCAA win Friday vs. DePaul.
MVC Tournament Recap: UNI hit 32 made three-pointers for the tournament, No. 2 in Valley Tourney history. Angie Davison had a career-high 21 points, including a Valley record-tying 7 three-pointers vs. Evansville (3/11), then had a career-high 11 rebounds vs. Drake (3/12) in her career first double-double. Megan Maahs' 36 rebounds for the tournament rank her No. 3 in Valley Tournament history.
Maahs Plays Big: Forward Megan Maahs came down with a career-high 15 rebounds against Drake (3/12) in the title game, bringing her total to 215 boards this season. It ranks her No. 15 all-time at UNI in single-season rebounding, becoming the only freshman in school history ranked in the top-15 in the category.
Big Game, Big Points: Ellie Herzberg scored 25 points in the MVC Title game against Drake (3/12). It is the fifth time this season she has scored in the 20-point range, including a career-high 27 points against the Bulldogs (1/27) during the regular season.
Board Battle: Hannah Schonhardt has led the Panthers in rebounds all season with 216 through 32 games, but freshman Megan Maahs has started to creep in for the stat lead with 215 total rebounds. They are averaging 6.8 and 6.7, respectively, with one of the pair leading UNI in boards in 28 of the 32 games this season. Maahs has been the rebounding leader in three straight games, including a career-high 15 against Drake (3/12).
A Panther Finish: UNI is the only team in the MVC to finish conference in the top-half of the standings in nine consecutive seasons, including in the top-three in two of the last three years.
15 Wins: UNI finished the regular season 15-3 in MVC play, the second straight season with 15 conference wins. It is the second-most league victories in program history with the Panthers winning 17 in 2011. The 2017 season marks the ninth season in UNI history with 12-or-more Valley victories with five coming under the direction of head coach Tanya Warren.
Climbing the Ranks: Tanya Warren currently has 186 wins overall and 117 in Valley play. She is first in all-time wins at UNI and is seventh in Valley history in all-time wins. Warren has also moved into a tie for fifth all-time in career MVC wins with Tony DiCecco who both have 117, passing Lisa Bluder who had 116 (Drake, 1991-00).
1,700 and Counting: Madison Weekly is ranked No. 3 all-time at UNI in career points and is just the fourth player in school history to break the 1,744 point mark. She is also just one of 38 active players in NCAA Division I women's basketball that has scored 1,700 points in a career.
Single-Season Scoring: Madison Weekly is ranked twice in UNI history in single-season points. She became just the second player in UNI history to score 600 points in a season in 2015-16 (618) and is also tied for No. 9 all-time with 482 in 2016-17.
