Taylor Helps Lock Up No. 2 Seed for MVC Tourney

CARBONDALE, Illinois - The University of Northern Iowa volleyball squad locked up the No. 2 seed for the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference volleyball tournament with a 3-0 sweep of the Southern Illinois Salukis at Davies Gym on Sunday afternoon.
UNI won by set scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-19.
UNI (24-7 overall, 14-3 MVC) got a career-high hitting performance from sophomore Karlie Taylor in the triumph. Taylor notched her 21st double-double of the season and hit for a career-high .483 with 14 kills and no attack errors. Taylor had 13 digs as well.
Junior Bri Weber also collected a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs against the Salukis. Junior Piper Thomas continued her hot hitting with 11 kills and a .375 hitting percentage.
Southern Illinois fell to 6-21 overall and 5-11 in league play.
UNI will wrap up the regular season Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa, against the Drake Bulldogs. The match will get underway at 5 p.m. in the Knapp Center.
NOTES: UNI moved to 685-9 when leading a match 2-0 ... UNI recorded a .342 team hitting percentage in the match - marking its eighth .300 hitting percentage of higher match in MVC play this season ... the 2017 MVC Tournament will be held Nov. 23-25 in Normal, Illinois ... by earning the No. 2 seed, UNI will have a bye into the semifinals and will play the winner of the No. 3 vs. No. 6 match that will be played on Thurs., Nov. 23.
