UNI Wrestling: 5 Panthers Earn Titles at Flanagan Open

DUBUQUE, Iowa – UNI wrestling crowned five champions and had two runner-ups at the Pat "Flash" Flanagan Open today.

Ten Panthers combined to tally 11 falls and five tech falls.

Champions:

125 pounds: Tanner Rohweder, redshirt freshman
133 pounds: Rudy Yates, freshman
157 pounds: Dan Kelly, redshirt freshman
197 pounds: Tyler Hoffman, junior
285 pounds: Carter Isley, freshman

Other place-winners by weight:

133 pounds: Darren Eades, sixth
149 pounds: Hunter Washburn, second
165 pounds: Brody Beck, fifth
184 pounds: Justin Guilliams, second
197 pounds: Izaak Shedenhelm, third

Hoffman earned bonus points en route to a title. He earned two falls and tech fall.

Shedenhelm finished third in his first competition of the season. The freshman took third, notching his first fall in 6 minutes, 8 seconds over Jose Suarez of Triton College.

Kelly earned his fastest fall of the season in 2:11 over Austin Neal of Drury. He went on to grab another fall and a tech fall.

Beck opened the tournament with his first fall of the year, pinning Drury's Trenton Clines in 2:08. He also pinned Michael Belanger of UW Platteville.

It was the second tournament win for Yates at 133 pounds. He also won the Grand View Open. Yates won three of his four matches by tech fall.

Guilliams had two falls, but was edged out by Jaalen Banner of Triton College for the title.

Isley recorded a fall and won the championship in a tiebreaker, 2-1 over Wisconsin Eau Claire's Justin Karkula.
