UNI Scores Three Wins At Larry Wieczorek Invite

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa track and field program came away with three individual wins at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational, with both teams ending the day in third place through one day of competition.
Lauren Frederick got things started for the Panthers with a win in the women's pentathlon. The junior scored a career-high 3,728 points for the win, ranking her No. 4 all-time at UNI and also ranking in the top-five in the Missouri Valley Conference this season.
She opened the competition by finishing second overall in the 60 meter hurdles and in the high jump, punching in a time of 9.05 and a career-best mark of 5-3.25. She won the shot put competition with a toss of 35-2.50, following it up with a huge PR in the long jump of 17-9.75. The Paola, Kan., native wrapped up the day with a win in the 800 meters with a career-best time of 2:19.97.
In the field, Sarah Pate threw a career-best mark in the weight throw for the second straight meet, winning the event. She finished with a mark of 62-10.75, keeping her ranked No. 5 all-time at UNI and at No. 2 in the Valley this season.
Pate wasn't the only Panther thrower to score a PR today, with Hope Koerperich (56-1.75), Alanna Neitert (52-2.50) and Allison Griffin (51-5.75) all coming away with big personal-bests in the weight throw.
Moving into the men's events, Isaac Holtz came away with the victory in the men's weight throw, recording a toss of 61-9.00 for a career-best and a win. Brad Walski and Evan Colfack rounded out the top-five finishers in the competition with Walksi finished third (59-8.50) and Colfack posting a season-best of 57-11.75 for fourth overall.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow for the second day of competition at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational. The meet will get started for the Panthers at 11 a.m. with the men's shot put. Live results are provided by the University of Iowa.
