MANHATTAN, Kan. - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team secured an impressive road win Friday night, defeating Kansas State 2-1 in the first-ever meeting between the teams.
The Panthers broke the deadlock just before halftime in the 44th minute, thanks to a Mary Brandt strike that found the back of the net. Assisting her on the play was Amber Nieland, her first assist of the season.
It wouldn't take the Panthers long after the break to find their second goal, with Hannah McDevitt scoring in the 47th minute. This is McDevitt's second goal of the season and proved to be the difference after the Wildcats pulled back a goal late.
The Panthers (4-4-1) look to improve on this mark this Sunday at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex, with Western Illinois coming to town. Kickoff is set for noon and live stats will be available via UNI Athletics.
