Panthers Clash With Iowa In Exhibition Opener

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team opened the season Friday night, traveling to Iowa City for an exhibition match with the Iowa Hawkeyes, falling 2-0.

The Panthers and the Hawkeyes played three 30-minute periods in Iowa City, with all three periods being tightly contested with strong physical defense being the constant. UNI had seven shots, two on goal from Morgan Teel and Brynell Yount. Whitney Blunt, Maddie Lesjak and Tiffany Oliver split time in goal, tallying a combined eight saves.

UNI was able to get its bench on the field to gain experience with the three periods, putting a heavy focus on getting the entire roster valuable minutes.

The Panthers are back in action on Tuesday, Aug. 16 with an exhibition match against Minnesota State-Mankato. The game will take place at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex in Waterloo, kicking off at 7 p.m.
