Przybylski Earns Spot on MVC Scholar-Athlete Squad

University of Northern Iowa senior Sonja Przybylski (Cedar Falls, Iowa) has been selected to the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete team as an honorable mention choice as announced by the league office today. A total of 16 student-athletes received recognition by earning either first-team or honorable-mention honors.
Przyblyski owns a 3.92 cumulative grade point average in her family services major. She made eight starts and played 21 rounds with an 81.33 stroke average. She tied for 30th at the MVC championship after starting with an opening-round 75. Przybylski recorded seven sub-80 rounds, including a season-best 74 in the first round of the Oral Roberts/Stephen F. Austin Spring Break Invite (March 14). She also tied for 22nd at the Indiana State Invitational (April 10).
Golfer of the Year Danielle Lemek (Bradley) is one of four repeat first-team picks on the team, voted on by the league's golf sports information directors. Those who earned first-team honors this year and last include Brooke Cusumano of Southern Illinois, Lemek, Kayla Katterhenry of Evansville, and Bryce Schroeder of Wichita State. Joining MVC Elite 18 Award recipient Madison Glennie of Drake and those four on the first team are Meghan Jack of Wichita State, Taryn Torgerson of Wichita State and Kiley Walsh of Illinois State.
In addition to the eight first-team selections, eight student-athletes received honorable mention selection by virtue of receiving a minimum number of votes. A total of 29 student-athletes were nominated for women's golf scholar-athlete honors.
Notably, of the eight student-athletes on the first team, six also earned all-conference honors, including medalist Taryn Torgerson, runner-up finisher Kayla Katterhenry and third-place finisher Lemek.
The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic Capital One Academic All-America® program. Nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of her team's rounds or played at the MVC Championship.
Wichita State won the MVC championship, April 17-19, in Chicago, Ill.. The Shockers will head to Baton Rouge, La., to compete in the NCAA Regionals for the third time in school history, May 5-7.
