UNI Volleyball Schedule Features 13 Home Matches

The University of Northern Iowa volleyball program has consistently ranked among the top home attendance teams in the nation and the 2016 Panther schedule will provide 13 matches in the McLeod Center to keep the tradition alive.
UNI's home opener is set for Sept. 13 vs. Iowa State at 7 p.m. The Panthers will also play host to a tournament for the second straight year with the UNI Tournament set for Sept. 16-18. The UNI Tournament will feature Illinois State, Northwestern, North Dakota State and Syracuse.
"We have always had great fan support for our program going back to our days in the West Gym," head coach Bobbi Petersen said. "We want to provide a challenging schedule that will help us get to the NCAA Tournament, but we also want to reward our fans and give them more opportunities to see us play at home. Having a home tournament for the second consecutive year is great for our program and rewarding for our loyal fans."
UNI in NCAA Attendance Last Five Seasons
UNI will open the season Aug. 26-27 at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich., by taking on Saint Louis, Miami (Ohio) and Michigan.
The Panthers will travel to Los Angeles and will take part in the USC Tournament set for Sept. 2-3. The USC Tournament will feature matches against Creighton, USC and Kentucky.
UNI will head to Kansas City, Mo., on Sept. 9 to take on Nebraska-Omaha and UMKC. The Panthers will make their way to Lawrence, Kan., on Sept. 10 to match up against the Kansas Jayhawks.
Following the UNI Tournament, the Panthers will get into full Missouri Valley Conference action with a road trip to Southern Illinois on Sept. 23 and at Evansville on Sept. 24.
UNI's home MVC opening weekend is set for Sept. 30 vs. Missouri State and Oct. 1 vs. Wichita State.
The Panthers enter the 2016 season as the winningest program in MVC history. UNI has won 437 MVC matches, which is the most in league history. Missouri State ranks second with 375 MVC victories. UNI has won 17 regular season MVC titles and 16 MVC Tournament crowns. UNI has made 19 NCAA Tournament appearances.
Coach Petersen is entering her 17th year at the helm of the Panther program with a career record of 410-122 (.771 winning percentage). UNI will return all seven starters from last year's squad that earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.
