BOCA RATON, Fla. - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team took on its second opponent in the state of Florida on its spring break trip and came up on the short end of a 7-0 decision to Florida Atlantic University.

UNI's top doubles team of Jieke Stroobant and Elvira Lopez recorded a 6-2 victory over FAU's Lindsey Boos and Ana Gutierrez. However, FAU's No.2 and No. 3 doubles teams scored identical 6-4 wins to give the Owls the doubles point.

FAU went on to win all six singles matches but not before the Panthers put up a fight. FAU's Boos won at No. 1 singles over Stroobant, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4). Gutierrez got past Lopez at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3.

UNI's Astrid Santos pushed FAU's Jazz Whittaker to a third-set tiebreaker at No. 3 singles. Whittaker hung on for a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (12-10) victory over Santos.

At No. 5 singles, FAU's Marisa Ruiz tallied a three-set triumph over UNI's Eve Small, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6). Savanna Hunt then battled at No. 6 singles but saw FAU's Heather Walton prevail, 6-1, 7-5.

FAU moved to 9-6 overall, while UNI fell to 1-10 on the season.

UNI will be in action Wednesday against Quinnipiac at 4 p.m. as the Panthers close their action in Florida.
